 Princess Alice Adoption Home

The Princess Alice Adoption Home was founded in 1930 to provide temporary shelter for babies waiting adoption and unmarried mothers to be.  The home today is a 24 hour residential care facility of the Johannesburg Child Welfare Society.

The home was the brainchild of Princess Alice, one of Queen Victoria’s thirty-five grand children.  Princess Alice came to South Africa when she married the Count of Athlone, who became the Governor General of the Cape.

Originally the home served the surrounding mining community, so the unmarried pregnant mother did not bring shame upon the family.  After delivering, the baby was then made available for adoption.

The home is situated on a piece of land belonging to the “Hope Home School” which serves the severely physically challenged child.  Kerr Muir donated the first substantial funds, and the house has been named after him.

The home was an exclusive “whites only” facility for many years, and was one of the first facilities to serve children from other racial and ethnic cultures.

The home has been operating for 76 years, and is based in Westcliff, Johannesburg.

WHAT HAVE WE DONE FOR THEM AS A DEALERSHIP THAT CARES FOR ITS COMMUNITY:

2011

In Feb 2011 Land Rover Sandton make a donation of approx R10 000.

2010

Land Rover Sandton donate tumble dryers to Princess Alice Adoption Home.

2009

On Tuesday morning the 24th March 2009, The Management Team of Land Rover Sandton, headed up by Jon Colman (our Dealer Principal), made a special trip through to the Princess Alice Adoption Home.  This time we had another special surprise for them.  A 1400 Chico Golf.  The Golf can be used to transport the childen to and from hospital safely.

Julie Vivier took us around to see how well the children are looked after.  What a special place.  You can see how much the staff care and love the little ones.

God Bless Julie and her staff for what they do for these little ones.  It is only a pleasure to be able to assist with such a small token of our appreciation for what they do in our Community.

On the 16th of April 2008, Jon Colman, (Dealer Principal), from Land Rover Sandton presented
The Princess Adoption Home with a cheque in order for them to upgrade their kitchen according to Health legislation.

This is the second time that Land Rover Sandton has assisted The Princess Adoption Home, The first being when we put up a fence around the Home for them.

Land Rover Sandton believe that it's very important to give back to the community and are honoured to be able to have contibuted to this worthy charity.  We wish The Princess Alice Adoption Home all the best for the year ahead and look forward to nurturing this relationship with them in the future.
